Ultrasonic Rail Testing

The Series 6000 has been designed in a non-stop mode, utilizing a chase vehicle as well as the conventional stop-start method. The defect data is transmitted to the chase vehicle via radio modem. Non-stop testing is essential when track time is minimal. The series 6000 can test at a maximum of 20 M.P.H. in the forward direction. In the “runlight” mode, with the test carriage raised, the maximum speed is 45 M.P.H. forward and 20 M.P.H. reverse.
The Series 6000 has a rear door with retractable stairs to provide easy, quick and safe exit. The rear door allows safe exit between the rails which is especially important on bridges and trestles.

Herzog Railroad Services, Inc. has developed a revolutionary method for testing installed joint bars (also referred to as angle bars) for cracks that are hidden from conventional test methods. Using a state-of-the-art laser measuring system and precision pneumatic controls, the Joint Bar Inspection system can accurately place the patent pending Roller Search Unit (RSU) at the proper position along the top shoulder of the bar. This allows for an inspection for cracks along the back side of the bar to occur while the vehicle is in motion, saving time and money by streamlining the process. A proprietary software package displays the ultrasonic information from the array in a real-time enhanced B-Scan format to the operator for instant analysis. All information is digitally recorded and tagged with DGPS information for accurate reporting and recall.
