The versatile Cartopper self-mounts from the ground to an operational position in less than 10 minutes - it also dismounts without assistance. The Cartopper then rides along top of the railcars, moving from car to car, loading or unloading onto or from the right-of-way as the work train moves along the track.

Once a car is loaded or unloaded, the operator quickly and efficiently moves the Cartopper to the next car, regardless of any variance in car height.

With the grapple, it can unload a thousand crossties each hour. When equipped with electro-magnets, the Cartopper has the ability to load or unload rail, plates, spikes and anchors. It can load or unload a third of a mile of rail per hour.
